What a chip repair actually does
A rock chip breaks the outer layer of your laminated windshield and traps air in the void. Left alone, that void spreads under stress. A repair fills it with a clear, structural resin that bonds the glass back together, restores strength, and stops the spread — all while keeping your original factory glass and seal.
The process, step by step
- Clean & prep — we clear debris and moisture out of the chip
- Vacuum — a bridge tool pulls the trapped air out of the void
- Inject resin — optical resin is pushed in under pressure to fill the break
- UV cure — ultraviolet light hardens the resin in place
- Polish flush — the surface is leveled and buffed clear
Start to finish it's usually about 30 minutes, and you can drive immediately after.
Why early matters
A fresh chip is clean and dry, which makes for the strongest, least-visible repair. Once dirt and moisture get in — or a cold Philadelphia night makes the glass contract — the chip can spread past what a repair can fix, leaving a replacement as the only option.
